Sketch Slap is back with a Big Gay Cabaret celebration for a queer comedy extravaganza
COMPANY: SoreSlap Theatre, AD – Rhian Jade, Producer – Papi Jeovani
AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+
RUN TIME: 90m
Sketch Slap is produced by SoreSlap Theatre’s Rhian Jade and Papi Jeovani. The team believe a platform for marginalised and allied artists to develop new work publicly and host a space for belly laughs and support is vital in today’s theatre scene. The show has developed over the year to become a safe LGBTQIA+ and Global Majority space to explore experience, culture and FUN together, with many featuring artists taking their work further professionally in the North East. Sketch Slap holds a public call out for work, offering employment to writers, performers, musicians, poets, theatre makers, technicians, and directors. The team then network together to create a show that is all comedy sketch, no person left behind. With full audiences at each show, we can’t wait to celebrate Pride as a huge part of our identity and audience base as well as collaborating with a valued venue, The Cumberland Arms and with Sister Shack to celebrate their awe inspiring Our Pride! The Big Gay Cabaret is going to be our biggest queer celebration EVER. With an all queer cast, and all queer joy comedy material, it’s going to be a slapper.
Sketch Slap offers a platform for theatre lovers and makers to come together and celebrate new local work. It is hailed for its diversity and inclusivity, much to SoreSlap’s delight! Sketch Slap has become an exciting opportunity for work to be developed, workshopped, and considered in a safe space to a full audience. Our cabaret sketch night continues to celebrate comedy, queerness, neurodiversity, disability, ethnic and racial diversity and for Our Pride, we are all about providing space for queer expression and affirmation! You can expect the weird, the wonderful, some wigs, bees, barbies, psychics and even pirates. Each event is completely unique as performances are always a work in progress.
Really, anything can happen at Sketch Slap, hailed for being diverse, gay and as easy going as you like, it will continue to be the most entertaining platform for new work development out there. Championing artists and audience. Sketch Slap is proud to bring the craic, always is!
